The Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI) said it had been granted a Singapore patent for a digital system designed to stabilize asset markets, marking the completion of a review process that began nearly four years ago.
The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) issued the patent, numbered 10202250873B, on 10 July 2026 for an invention titled “A Computer Network Stabilization System and Method,” The application was filed on September 1, 2022.
IsDBI, the research arm of the Islamic Development Bank Group, described the technology as its “Smart Stabilization System,” a digital market infrastructure intended to manage gaps between supply and demand and curb excessive price volatility.
The system uses algorithms and simulation models to anticipate imbalances between supply and demand and to apply what the institute called “programmable stabilization measures” before they turn into broader market disruptions, according to the statement.
IsDBI said the approach differs from conventional stabilization tools, which typically depend on capital reserves, buffer funds or intervention by external parties. The new system instead relies on what the institute described as a “proactive and programmed” mechanism intended to operate with less reliance on outside capital.
The institute has been developing the system with SettleMint, a blockchain technology company. In October 2023, IsDBI said it had begun building a prototype of the system in partnership with the company.
The platform incorporates distributed ledger technology, commonly known as blockchain, along with cryptographic trust mechanisms, which IsDBI said were meant to improve transparency and operational resilience in digital asset and commodity markets.
Sami Al-Suwailem, IsDBI’s acting director general, said in the statement that the patent grant strengthened the institute’s position in developing technology-based solutions to development challenges.
“This achievement reflects our commitment to translating pioneering research into practical solutions that contribute to economic resilience and sustainable development,” Al-Suwailem said.
IsDBI said it had continued to develop and test the Smart Stabilization System since filing the patent application, with the aim of broadening its potential uses and supporting future funding opportunities.
The technology can be applied to a range of assets, including shares, sukuk, a form of Islamic bond, digital currencies and central bank digital currencies, according to IsDBI.
The patent marks the latest development in the institute’s work to commercialize fintech solutions aimed at supporting financial markets and the digital economy.
The patent follows earlier intellectual property work by IsDBI in Singapore. The institute’s annual report for 2022 said three other fintech solutions; the Smart Credit Management System, Smart Voucher and Proof-of-Use, had already been patented by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, while the Smart Stabilization System was then awaiting approval.
IsDBI said in December 2023 that the World Intellectual Property Organization had given a favourable assessment of the Smart Stabilization System’s patentability, describing the invention as novel, inventive and industrially applicable.
By 2024, the institute had developed a functional demonstration of the system, according to its 2024 annual report. The report also said IsDBI was working to use emerging technologies, including blockchain and artificial intelligence, to develop solutions for Islamic finance and the wider digital economy.
IsDBI is the knowledge and research institute of the Islamic Development Bank Group, an organization focused on economic development among its member countries under principles of Islamic economics and finance.
The Islamic Development Bank Institute (IsDBI) work spans research, human capital development and support for Islamic finance systems across IsDB member states and Muslim communities worldwide.
